From the SpiritSong Tarot by Pauline Cassidy
9 of Feathers (in traditional deck, it would be 9 of Swords) – Porcupine
Keywords: Perspective and Self-Empowerment, Overcoming Fear, Innocence.
Porcupine is equipped with all he needs to protect himself. He wears the quills with honor and uses them to confront his fear. A mentor for the vulnerable, he’s here to show you how to protect himself from your own painful thoughts. When anxieties are at their height, if feels as though things are at their worst. Step back and look at the big picture. Things are not as bad as they seem. Gently, adjust your perspective and cast your sights into the future with optimism, knowing you’re doing the best you can. Easing the grip of fear and anger will shed a heavy burden and make your shoulders much lighter. Casting your burden to God and He shall sustain you. (Psalm 55:22, Philippians4:6-7)
Porcupine in Animal Medicine is about innocence and humility. It is also about faith and trust in Great Spirit, Creator or God who has a divine plan for you. Your task is to use your greatest talents to further the plan that Great Spirit has for you. Whether it be painting, song, or healing … it is also learning to trust Great Spirit to open the doors for you to walk in. With that, you are being reminded to not get sucked into the chaos of the adult world where fear, greed and suffering are prevalent. Just open your heart that gives you joy. Honor that spirit of playfulness that is in you. That lets your light shine and the darkness cast away.
Now, focus on your priorities, listen to your inner voice for guidance and make the conscious choice to believe that tomorrow holds great promise and honor that innocence that is in you.
